With the support of the South Carolina Legislature, the SCTA is able to connect hospitals across the state to ensure all South Carolinians have access to the same high quality healthcare providers, regardless of where they live. Listed below are some of the services that allow smaller hospitals to connect with larger hospitals to directly treat patients. These telehealth connections allow many patients to stay in their local community hospitals.

Telestroke

Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States and is a major cause of serious disability of adults. Time-sensitive treatment is essential for patient survival and recovery. Access to this care is crucial.

The SC Telehealth Alliance telestroke network provides remote acute consultations and treatment recommendations for patients with suspected strokes. Through affiliations with rural/community hospitals and medical centers, patients can receive high-quality, evidence-based care while remaining at their local facility. Due to the growth of this network, all South Carolinians are now within 60 minutes of expert stroke care, and patients can be evaluated and treated by a stroke expert without having to leave their communities.  This virtual network is proven to provide superior quality through better access to therapy and improved patient outcomes.

The SC Telehealth Alliance telestroke networks offers partners comprehensive support though the following:

  • Treatment recommendations for Alteplase
  • Identifications of potential endovascular candidates
