Federal Shutdown Update – Medicare Telehealth Flexibilities Still on Hold
The federal government shutdown has now entered its sixth week, and with it, the Medicare telehealth flexibilities that have been in place since 2020 remain expired as of October 1.
As shared in previous updates, it’s expected that once the government reopens with a funding plan, these telehealth flexibilities will be reinstated retroactively, allowing impacted claims to be paid.
In the meantime, MUSC Health continues to provide telehealth services with no disruption in patient care, ensuring access and continuity for patients statewide. Impacted claims are being carefully identified and held until federal operations resume.
The situation continues to underscore the importance of stable telehealth policy and funding to support ongoing care delivery, especially for rural and underserved populations.
